Milk
Thistle
Has been the subject of many studies documenting its incredible
effects on all varieties of liver disease. It has a remarkable
effect in protecting the liver from oxidant damage and in enhancing
the liver's detoxifican processed.
Milk thistle has been shown to be beneficial for acute viral hepatitis,
cirrhosis, fatty liver, jaundice, toxic metabolic liver disease
as well as other non-specific liver conditions.
Has shown a curative effect upon the liver, even in the presence
of (TAA) thioacetamide, which is known to destroy liver tissue
and generate results comparable to cirrhosis.
What most people are not aware of is that nearly all imbalances
and diseases in the body are connected to either stagnation in
the liver, low liver nutritional levels, blockages of liver energy
and the significant negative results of one or more than these
in the body. Once the bowel imbalances in the horse is addressed,
the next step is to deal with the all important liver's needs.
Milk thistle is one of the key herbs that can address many of these
issues. We will do an in depth newsletter on this topic in the
future. So stay tuned for that.
Used daily it helps to protect the liver and treat liver ailments.
Has been found to help inflammatory conditions of both the liver
and the skin.
Is
considered quite safe (non-toxic) with only a small potential
for minor gastrointestiunal discomfort due to the cleansing nature
of the herb and it's ability to increase the bile
flow.
Usage
should be followed by a cleansing herb like dandelion at least
2-3 times per year.
(spring and fall) Horses would each get their hand picked 2 gallon
pail of dandelion/roots daily for ten days at a time.
Active
Ingredient:
SILYMARIN is reported to be a more powerful antioxidant
than vitamin E, and it's benefits are many:
- functions primarily in the liver to inhibit tissue damage by
destroying the free radicals formed from fatty acid metabolism
-acts as a direct anti-oxidant and free radical scavenger, increasing
intracellular levels of gsh and sod
-encourages
the liver to produce its own type of toxic avengers to absorb
free radicals and evacuate them from the body (research
published in Planta Medica)
-research shows it helps rejuvenate the liver
-stimulates the production of liver proteins which create new
liver cells to replace old damaged cells (has not been shown to
influence malignant liver tissue)
-research shows it raises glutathione levels (gsh)
in liver cells by as much as 50 percent ; glutathione is considered
the most important
anti-oxidant and is produced by the liver; GSH *** has the ability
to neutralize viruses, bacteria, yeast, toxins, and free radicals
as well as detoxify the body. GSH recycles vitamin c and e and
is recycled itself by Alpha lipoic acid (ALA). The higher the GSH
level in the liver, the greater the liver's capacity to detoxify
the body. Reduction of GSH renders the liver cell vulnerable to
damage. Gluta-syn, HMS 90 and milk thistle are the only products
that I have found that are nutritional supplements that can raise
the GSH levels significantly. "Over the counter" glutathione
supplements should be used very cautiously. The art to getting
the liver to increase it's production of GSH has been an
ongoing study program for me and I am happy to report we
now have an excellent
recipe for success!
-research
shows it inhibits the depletion of glutathione, necessary for
the conversion of alcohol into a water-soluble substance which
is easily eliminated by the kidneys ( milk thistle is a drinker's
best friend because of its ability to prevent alcohol induced
fatty
liver)
-research shows it increases the activity of superoxide dismutase
(SOD) in blood cells
Milk thistle is available in capsules, bulk seeds, bulk powder,
liquid extracts
Gluta-Syn and HMS-90 available in powder form.
Prices start from $10.95 and up.
***NOTE: Our nutritional programs are created and designed to
increase GSH levels to assist the body in neutralizing and reversing
the aging process. I have spent many , many hours researching what
the body requires nutritionally for efficient and effective GSH
production.
