Lakota
If you're a serious horse owner or trainer looking for the very best in equine
joint care supplements or cutting edge equine topical pain relievers and liniments
then you've come to the right place!
Incredibly effective equine products are the specialty of LaKOTA
product formulator, Rick Stewart. This Western Canadian horseman's
success in developing powerful pain relief and joint care products
for race and performance horses are the reason why the human versions
of his pain relief and joint care formulas are the number one selling
products of their kind in pharmacies and health food stores.
Well known and respected within the equine supplement manufacturing
industry, Rick formulated and introduced the most powerful topical
pain reliever ever developed for racehorses suffering from joint
pain back in 1995. His formulation became the number one selling
topical pain relief medication in the World for equine athletes.
So when it comes to equine topical pain relief, as well as the
very best in equine pain relief and joint care supplements, this
is one man who knows exactly how to make it happen!
On the advice of some American Indian friends, Rick added the
North American extracts of Canada Balsam, Birch Oil, Yarrow, Chaparral
and Juniper Berry to his original equine topical pain relief formula.
These additional extracts enhanced the pain relieving and anti-inflammatory
benefits of his original formulation and now his original equine
topical pain relief formula works even better! Slated to be introduced
to the equine market on May 15th, 2003, Rick's new topical pain
relief formulas are guaranteed to once again set the standard in
equine topical pain relievers and liniments.
Copy-cat competitors within the equine (and human) supplement
industry have tried for years to duplicate Lakota's proprietary
blends and special extracts (which are protected by trade secrecy
agreements) - they have never been duplicated. So rest assured
that when you purchase a LaKOTA equine product that you're buying
the very best, highest quality supplements, topical pain relievers
and liniments available on the market today for your horse.

with this amazing list of active components:
Boswellia Serrata - Herb used for inflammation and pain control.
Boswellic acids have an anti-inflammatory action much like conventional
non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's). However, unlike
NSAID's though, long term use of Boswellia has never been shown
to lead to irritation or ulceration of the stomach. Boswellia also
inhibits pro-inflammatory mediators in the body.
White Willow Bark - Herb used for inflammation and pain control.
White Willow Bark is the source of a wide range of phenolic glycosides,
the most important being Salicin. White Willow Bark is used like
Aspirin, treating mild fevers, colds, infections, arthritis and
other forms of pain caused by inflammation. Aspirin (acetylsalicylic
acid) is a synthetic replacement for Salicin but it has potentially
dangerous gastrointestinal side effects and can cause ulceration
of the stomach wall. White Willow Bark on the other hand, a natural
form of Salicin, passes harmlessly through the gastrointestinal
tract, becoming Saligen and Glucose and does not seem to cause
stomach upset, ulceration or bleeding as Aspirin can. The Saligen
is then taken up by the body through the intestinal wall and converted
to Salicylic Acid in the blood and liver. This conversion process
takes several hours so results will not be immediate like Aspirin
but relief seems to be sustained for several hours longer once
this conversion does take place and the Salicylic Acid is in the
bloodstream.
Sarsaparilla
- Used by many Indian tribes in the American Southwest, this
herb is
known to increase circulation to the joints and reduce
inflammation caused by arthritis. Aside from containing steroidal
saponins and phytosterols which are believed to contribute to it's
therapeutic effects, Sarsaparilla also contains calcium, copper,
iron, iodine, potassium, manganese, silicon, sulphur, vitamins
A, C, B complex and D. Vitamins A & C are anti-oxidant vitamins
and necessary nutrients for connective tissue vitality.
Yucca - Herb used for inflammation and pain control. Yucca contains
the natural steroid, saponin and also appears to block the release
of toxins from intestines that inhibit the normal formation of
cartilage.
Feverfew - Herb used for inflammation and pain control. The active
ingredients found in feverfew help reduce pain by inhibiting prostaglandins
and promoting vasodilation, thus reducing inflammatory reactions
in the body.
Devil's Claw - Herb used for inflammation and pain control. Used
primarily in the treatment of arthritic conditions, Devil's Claw
contains harpogoside and betasitosterol, two components shown to
have pain relieving properties.
Bromelain - Is a proteolytic enzyme that increases nutrient absorption
and inhibits the production of kinins and fibrin, which promote
the inflammatory process.
Collagen Type II - Of the three types of Collagen, type II is
the most important for cartilage as it is the major component of
joint cartilage and connective tissue. Collagen Type II also contains
about 25% Chondroitin, Glucosamine and Hyaluronic Acid. Collagen
Type II is the primary nutrient needed to regenerate the outer
covering of the joint capsule in order to maintain joint integrity
(see also Cartilage Repair for more amazing information on this
nutrient).
Glucosamine
Sulphate & HCL - A popular proteoglycan that increases
the cushioning effect of cartilage by drawing water to the joint.
Glucosamine also helps increase lubrication within the joint capsule.
LaKOTA combines both fast acting Glucosamine Sulphate with the
longer lasting Glucosamine Hydrochloride (see also Glucosamine
Q&A's).
Hyaluronic Acid - Helps in the production of synovial fluid for
joint lubrication.**
Chondroitin
Sulphate - Well known Glycosaminoglycan that helps maintain healthy
joints
especially in arthritic cases (see Cartilage
Repair and Glucosamine Q&A's). **
Keratan Sulphate - Lesser known Glycosaminoglycan that helps maintain
joint cartilage health and increase joint lubrication.*
Dermatan Sulphate - Lesser known Glycosaminoglycan that helps
maintain joint cartilage health and increase joint lubrication.*
Herparan Sulphate - Lesser known Glycosaminoglycan that helps
maintain joint cartilage health and increase joint lubrication.*
Alkaline Phosphatase - Nutrient that promotes tissue healing and
cell repair.*
Neutrophils - Promotes the body's resistance to disease and injury.*
Pantocrine - Increases muscle performance.*
Bone Morphogenetic Protein - Regulates bone growth.*
L-Proline - Primary amino acid used by the body in the production
and regeneration of joint cartilage.
In addition
to the above, the LaKOTA Equine Joint Care Formula also contains
Omega 3 & 6
Fatty Acids, All Essential Amino Acids, Calcium, Iron, Phosphorous
and Zinc.
