
Astagalus
Root
Astragalus belongs to the group of Vetches and the
family of peas. The plant is known as the milk vetch. It is a mild
restorative and preventative plant. Has been recognized as a superb
and potent immune system tonic by modern researchers.
Actions:
*is one of the most important oriental tonics and health promoting
medicinal plants
*increases resistance to disease and infections, to protect the
body and has been called the Great Protector
*very beneficial in long term immune support for horses in heavy
training, stressful situations (very cold or very hot) or live
in areas of high levels of diseases such as EPM, Potomac Fever
and West Nile Virus
*benefits for horses are directly to the adrenal glands, digestion,

Recent research has revealed possible uses for myasthenia gravis,

Active Constituents: the interpene glycosides , are saponins,
the total astgaloside fraction of astragalus is an extremely potent
health agent (studies and trademarked as TA-70) has a bipolar biphasic,
double direction activity, is an extremely potent immune modulator
capable of building the immune response while suppressing excessive
immune activity as occurs in autoimmune conditions (ie allergies,
arthritis) and has an extremely potent antioxidant activity, hundreds
of times stronger than vitamin e and stronger than that of grape
seed extract, ginkgo biloba and pine bark
It is described from the earliest of times as an herb which prolongs
the years of life without aging. It is one of the most popular
and highly respected Chinese tonic herbs available today.
Astragalus is rich in zinc and selenium. It may be added to almost
any tonic designed to strengthen the entire body. It is superb
for young or old, male or female, as a main ingredient or in combination.
It is highly recommended to consume astragalus every day to some
degree or another.
Contraindications: None. Being in the legume family, it may produce
flatulence in those who are prone to this distressing symptom when
they eat legumes such as peas. Start slowly and increase amounts
slowly.
